Action Sports in Salt Lake City

Getting Started

August 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

June 2007, I arrived in Salt Lake City for the first time. Encouraged by friends who moved from the East Coast, I chose Salt Lake for the access to the outdoors and prime skiing conditions. Big Whooop right?!.. Many have all moved here mostly for the same reasons, except for those with religious intentions.

Did it ever occur to you when the 2002 Winter Olympics came to Salt Lake that these sports which required gliding over snow and ice took place in an area which geographically is considered an arid dry desert? That doesn’t really sound like a great place for winter recreation, yet there are 7 world class ski resorts within a half hours drive. And even in the summer a majority of the 1.5 million people in Salt Lake stay in amazing physical shape! Whether you run, cycle, climb, or paddle, anyone with recreational pursuit will discover as we all have how practical Salt Lake City is for a life full of outdoor recreation.

The Governs Office of Planning expects to Utah to grow by nearly 1 million every 10 years. Should many of these people pursue outdoor recreation like skiing, cycling and climbing, there will continue to be large opportunity for businesses to flourish and create a mecca for action sports. My goal is to find and exhibit the companies and individuals who support and sponsor the developing recreational community.

Let this be a guide to reference action sports accomplishments and a learning tool for us all to play safe!
